For the first time in 500 years, a large part of the Old Procuracies (Procuratie Vecchie) on St. Mark's Square in Venice is being opened to the public. The goal is to more closely connect the famous building with the city and its visitors. The Procuracies Palace was restored over a period of five years beforehand. To reinforce the ceilings and replace old fastenings, such as wooden pins and rivet joints, as well as for many other applications, fischer fastener products were used.

Three interconnected buildings frame St. Mark's Square in Venice, known as the Procuracies. To the north are the Old Procuracies (Procuratie Vecchie), to the west the Napoleonic Wing, and to the south the New Procuracies (Procuratie Nuove). They served as residence and workplace for the Procurators of Saint Mark. These city officials held the highest-ranking position after the Doges (heads of state) in the Republic of Venice. Their task was to manage the assets of St. Mark's Basilica.
The work included the renovation of the first and second floors with the offices of the insurance company. The layout and access to the rooms were newly organized. In addition, the third floor was renovated. This floor houses The Human Safety Net, an international, non-profit Generali foundation supporting disadvantaged people. On the third floor, a public access was created to the exhibition and event spaces, work areas, an auditorium, and a café. Some of the most traditional Venetian craft techniques were used in the restoration work: terrazzo on the arches opening to the walls, pastelone floors, limewash on the brick surfaces, marmorino, and Venetian plaster.

Due to the enormous importance of the project, great skill and expertise were required not only in the architectural design but also in the selection of products for the careful and cautious restoration. The company Sacaim SpA, which has been active in Venice since 1920, was primarily responsible for this. This responsible general contractor has already collaborated on numerous projects with the fischer group, which supplied the fastening solutions for the restoration project.
The restoration of the Old Procuracies is part of the celebrations for Generali's 190th anniversary and a broad renovation initiative for the area around St. Mark's Square, which also includes, for example, the recently reopened Royal Gardens. The premises served as the Italian headquarters of the insurance company until 1989. After the restoration work, Generali will now return to the Old Procuracies. Thanks to the successful completion of the project, the history of the building can be preserved. At the same time, the Old Procuracies will be opened to the global public for the first time and led into the future with a new use.
