6.5 million people currently live in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. And the influx of new residents into the metropolis is high. To keep up with urbanization, a new metro system is being built from 2014 to 2021. This shifts traffic from congested streets to the rails – for fast and environmentally friendly progress.
With six lines and a route length of 176 kilometers, one of the largest metro systems in the world is being created. Together with integrated solutions such as a multi-lane bus network and ample parking, public transport will cover the majority of the city. 85 new stations, each with its own color scheme per line, as well as extensive green spaces around stations and tracks, are giving Riyadh a new face.
fischer fastening solutions are used for numerous applications, especially in interior construction. More than 900 different steel anchors, plastic anchors, chemical fastening systems, facade and installation systems, as well as FireStop solutions, have already been installed in the stations, tunnels, and depots with a piece count of around seven million. The products allow elements in interior construction, media lines, and wall coverings to be securely, simply, and quickly anchored in concrete and hollow block structures as well as fixed to steel constructions.

900 products from the fischer fastening program
In the steel sector, among others, the fischer bolt anchors FAZ II and FBN II were installed. The economical and installation-friendly anchoring solutions meet high load requirements in concrete, even under extreme conditions such as seismic loads. Additionally, the impact anchor EA II was used. With its approval for multiple fastening of non-load-bearing systems, it is ideally suited for example for attaching utility lines. In chemical fastening systems, the fischer injection mortar FIS EM Plus ensured the highest load-bearing capacity in concrete as well as in seismic applications. Furthermore, the fischer Highbond system FHB II was employed. The torque-controlled bonded expansion anchor achieves the highest load values in concrete. With the versatile fischer injection mortar FIS V, the add-on parts could also be anchored permanently and securely in hollow block masonry. Thanks to its numerous system approvals, the bonded anchor allows high load capacity in all building materials, such as concrete as well as solid and hollow masonry. In the plastic sector, among others, the fischer long shaft dowels SXR were used. With their long shank, the facade substructure could be fixed directly in the anchoring base. They consist of special screws and powerful nylon sleeves that have various expansion elements and behave suitably for solid and hollow building materials.

Also installed were fischer facade systems, such as the Zykon plate anchors FZP II for completely form-fitting and completely tension-free fastening of wall claddings in the conically undercut drilled hole. Additional components of the complete system were also used, such as the undercut drilling machines BSN. The Zykon plate anchors FZP II achieve lower plate bending moments and higher load capacities than edge fastenings. This allowed the thin natural stone slabs used, with a thickness of two centimeters and low permeability, to be securely and firmly anchored without being visible from the outside. Meanwhile, the fischer installation systems enabled reliable, economical, and simple fastening of all supply and disposal lines. The fischer universal rail system FUS was suitable for heavy loads. The required components could be modularly assembled depending on the situation and scope of the line. Products from the fischer FireStop range for passive fire protection additionally help to protect human lives and infrastructure in the event of a fire outbreak.
With products and services that cover project-specific requirements and approvals, the fischer corporate group will continue to support the project as a strong partner until successful construction completion. For example, some of the stations have been completed, while others are still under construction. fischer is in permanent close contact with the various partners and project-involved companies to provide appropriate products and services.
Our support ranged from consulting discussions and technical presentations to planning, pull-out tests, testing, and assistance with installation on the construction site. We provided rapid support by delivering technical calculations within less than 48 hours and much more.
